Important information about NewViews Accounting and Windows Vista.

Preliminary testing with NewViews v1.41 (DOS) has shown that this accounting program will operate under the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.  This testing was performed using an IBM/Lenovo T60p ThinkPad computer with Microsoft's Windows Vista Business operating system.  Printing to a shared network printer with an LPT port capture was also successful.  To print to a shared network printer through an LPT port capture, perform the following actions:

Close the NewViews program.

Go to a Command (DOS) Prompt and type the following command:

     net  use  lpt1:  \\computername\printername  /persistent:yes

- Substitute the name of the computer that acts as the print server for "computername".
- Substitute the name of the printer for "printername".
- The /persistent:yes parameter causes this setting to be reinstated at each reboot.
- If you have a local parallel printer on LPT1, you may use LPT2 instead.

Close the Command (DOS) Prompt.

Open the NewViews program and try printing to LPT1.

 - Make sure that LPT1 has been specified as the File Name in the NewViews Print Options.

To permanently disconnect the persistent LPT1 connection, use the following command:

     net use lpt1 /delete

Printing to a local printer has not yet been tested but printing to a locally installed USB printer should be possible using a similar method.  The following procedure should work for the Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista operating systems.  First your computer must have the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service installed.  Second, the locally installed USB printer must be shared on the network.  Perform the procedure described above to setup an LPT port capture to your USB printer.

These procedures require that you have a network adapter installed in your computer.  If you have high-speed Internet service, then you already have a network adapter in your computer.
